Welcome to this deck on advanced German adjective usage. We will consolidate your knowledge of adjective declension in all its forms and then learn how to use present and past participles as adjectives. By the end, you'll be able to describe nouns with much greater precision and variety.

Let's begin with a quick review. In German, adjective endings change based on three things: the gender, case, and number of the noun, and what kind of word comes before the adjective. This results in three patterns: weak declension, mixed declension, and strong declension.

First, weak declension. This is used after a definite article like 'der', 'die', or 'das'. This is the easiest pattern because the article already provides most of the grammatical information. The adjective ending is almost always 'en', except for a few cases in the singular which take an 'e'.
