For example, to say 'I eat rice', you say 'Saya makan nasi'. 'Saya' is the subject I, 'makan' is the verb eat, and 'nasi' is the object rice. Crucially, verbs in Indonesian do not conjugate. 'Makan' stays the same whether it is I eat, you eat, or she eats.

Now let us learn how to say no. Indonesian is unique because it uses different words for 'no' depending on what you are negating. The first word is 'Tidak'. You use 'Tidak' to negate verbs and adjectives. You place it directly before the word. To say 'I do not eat', you say 'Saya tidak makan'. To say 'not good', you say 'tidak bagus'.
