In bridge, not all hands are created equal. Before you can bid, you need a way to measure your hand's strength. The most fundamental method is counting your High Card Points, often called HCP. This gives you a baseline value for your hand.
Lesson#2
The High Card Point system is simple: an Ace is worth 4 points, a King is 3, a Queen is 2, and a Jack is 1. All other cards are worth zero points. You just add up the values of these 'honour' cards to get your starting total.
