Lesson#1
Welcome to the deck on the AQA GCSE French Speaking exam role-play. This task tests your ability to communicate in a real-life situation. In this deck, you'll learn how to understand the role-play card, ask questions, respond to prompts, and handle unexpected situations with confidence.
Lesson#2
First, let's look at the role-play card itself. You'll have twelve minutes before the exam to prepare. The card will describe a situation, for example, you are at a train station or in a café. It will list five tasks for you to complete. Most tasks are instructions, but you will always find two special symbols: a question mark, and an exclamation mark.
Quiz#3
On a GCSE French role-play card, what does the question mark symbol tell you to do?

Ask a question

Quiz#4
On a GCSE French role-play card, what does the exclamation mark symbol prepare you for?

An unexpected question or situation

Lesson#5
The question mark prompt means you must ask the examiner a question. During your preparation time, think about how to form this question correctly. You can use simple question starters like 'Est-ce que', which means 'Is it that', followed by a statement. For example, 'Est-ce qu'il y a une piscine?' for 'Is there a swimming pool?'. Other useful phrases are 'À quelle heure...?' for 'At what time...?', and 'C'est combien?' for 'How much is it?'.
Quiz#6
You are at a tourist office and the role-play prompt is to ask what time the museum opens. How would you ask this in French?

À quelle heure ouvre le musée?
