Lesson#1
In this deck, you will learn how to handle spoken phone calls in Dutch. We will practise identifying yourself, asking for people politely, managing the conversation when someone is busy, leaving messages, and closing calls smoothly.
Lesson#2
When answering the phone in Dutch, people usually identify themselves immediately using the preposition met, which literally means with. To answer informally, say 'Hallo, met Peter'. If you are calling a friend who knows your voice, you can say 'Hoi Lisa, met mij!', meaning 'Hi Lisa, it is me!'.
Quiz#3
Translate into Dutch: 'Hello, Peter speaking.'

Hallo, met Peter

Quiz#4
Speaking to a friend on the phone, how do you say 'Hi Lisa, it is me!' in Dutch?

Hoi Lisa, met mij!

Lesson#5
In professional or administrative calls, begin with a formal greeting such as Goedemiddag or Goedemorgen. You can identify yourself simply with met, as in 'Goedemiddag, met Peter Jansen'. To state your organization, say 'u spreekt met', meaning 'you are speaking with'. For example, 'Goedemorgen, u spreekt met Sarah van het talencentrum' means 'Good morning, you are speaking with Sarah from the language centre'.
Quiz#6
Speaking formally, translate into Dutch: 'Good afternoon, Peter Jansen speaking.'

Goedemiddag, met Peter Jansen
