Lesson#1
In Dutch, direct questions and commands can sometimes sound a bit blunt. You can soften your speech and sound much more courteous by using the conditional verb 'zouden'. This deck introduces 'zou' and 'zouden' for making polite spoken requests and offering gentle advice.
Lesson#2
To ask someone politely to do something, start your question with 'zou', followed by the subject, and place the main verbs at the very end of the sentence. Dutch speakers often add the modal verb 'kunnen' at the end to mean 'could you'. For example, 'Zou u dat kunnen herhalen?' means 'Could you repeat that?'.
