Lesson#1
In this deck, you will learn how to use the Russian instrumental case without any preposition. You will use this bare case to talk about hobbies and sports, and to describe someone's past or future profession.
Lesson#2
In Russian, the reflexive verb 'заниматься' means to do, practise, or occupy yourself with an activity. It connects directly to the instrumental case with no preposition. For example, to say 'I do sport', you say 'Я занимаюсь спортом'.
Quiz#3
Translate into Russian: 'I do sport.'

Я занимаюсь спортом

Lesson#4
To ask what someone does or what activity they practise, use the question word 'чем', which is the instrumental form of 'что'. Speaking formally or to more than one person, ask 'Чем вы занимаетесь?'.
Quiz#5
Speaking formally, how do you say 'What do you do?' in Russian?

Чем вы занимаетесь?

Lesson#6
To name specific sports, put the sport into the instrumental case after 'заниматься'. Football is 'футбол', which becomes 'футболом'. For example, 'Он занимается футболом' means 'He plays football'.
