Lesson#1
To talk about an action that happened before another point in the past, Spanish uses a tense called the pluperfect, or 'pretérito pluscuamperfecto'. It's the equivalent of saying 'I had done something' in English. For example, 'I had already eaten when you arrived'.
Lesson#2
To form the pluperfect, you combine the imperfect tense of the verb 'haber' with the past participle of the main verb. The forms of 'haber' are: había, habías, había, habíamos, habíais, and habían. The past participle, like 'hablado' for spoken, or 'comido' for eaten, never changes.
