After the First World War, Adolf Hitler remained in the army, working as a spy in Munich. His job was to investigate small, new political groups. In 1919, he was sent to observe the German Workers' Party, or DAP. He was drawn to their nationalist ideas, joined the party, and soon discovered he had a powerful talent for public speaking.

By 1920, Hitler was in charge of propaganda for the party and soon became its leader. He renamed it the National Socialist German Workers' Party, or NSDAP, known to us as the Nazi Party. Together with the party's founder, Anton Drexler, Hitler announced the party's new platform: the Twenty-Five Point Programme.

The Twenty-Five Point Programme was a mix of nationalist, socialist, and racist ideas, designed to have a broad appeal. Key points included abolishing the Treaty of Versailles, uniting all German-speaking people into a 'Greater Germany', and denying German citizenship to Jews.
