To talk about daily routines in the past, like getting up or getting dressed, French uses reflexive verbs. These are verbs where the action is done by the subject to themselves. In the passé composé, they always use the auxiliary verb 'être'.
Lesson#2
The structure is: subject, then a reflexive pronoun, then the verb 'être', then the past participle. The reflexive pronouns are 'me', 'te', 'se', 'nous', and 'vous'. For example, 'I washed' is 'Je me suis lavé'.
Lesson#3
Because reflexive verbs use 'être' in the passé composé, the past participle must agree with the subject in gender and number. For example, if a woman is speaking, she would say 'Je me suis levée', with an extra 'e'.
Lesson#4
Let's start with the verb 'se lever', which means 'to get up'. The past participle is 'levé'. For example, a man would say 'Je me suis levé' for 'I got up'.
