In French, adjectives like 'big' or 'small' must change to agree with the noun they describe. Let's start with the most common pattern for masculine and feminine singular nouns.

To make a standard adjective feminine, you usually add an 'e' to the end of the masculine form. For example, 'grand' means 'big'. For a masculine noun like 'un livre', a book, it stays 'grand'.

For a feminine noun like 'une table', a table, we add an 'e' to 'grand' to make it 'grande'. This makes the final 'd' sound audible.
