Lesson#1
In this deck, you will learn to connect two clauses using Swedish subordinating conjunctions. Words like 'eftersom', 'om', and 'när' explain cause, condition, and time. You will also learn two sentence patterns: placing the main clause first, and fronting the subordinate clause with inverted main clause word order.
Lesson#2
To give a reason with 'because' or 'since', use 'eftersom'. When the main clause comes first, follow it directly with 'eftersom' and your subordinate clause. For example, 'Jag stannar hemma eftersom det regnar' means 'I am staying at home because it is raining'.
Quiz#3
Translate into Swedish: 'I am staying at home because it is raining.'

Jag stannar hemma eftersom det regnar

Lesson#4
You can also put the reason first. When a subordinate clause starting with 'eftersom' opens the sentence, the main clause that follows must invert, placing the finite verb before the subject. For example, 'Eftersom det regnar stannar jag hemma' means 'Since it is raining, I am staying at home'.
Quiz#5
Translate into Swedish: 'Since it is raining, I am staying at home.'

Eftersom det regnar stannar jag hemma

Lesson#6
Another common way to say 'because' is 'därför att'. Unlike 'eftersom', 'därför att' is almost exclusively used after a main clause to answer why something happens. For example, 'Han stannar hemma därför att han är trött' means 'He is staying at home because he is tired'.
