Lesson#1
Welcome to this deck on making a business effective. Here, we'll explore the practical decisions every entrepreneur needs to make when starting up. We'll cover the different ways to own a business, how to choose a location, the famous '4 Ps' of marketing, the purpose of a business plan, and some crucial calculations like break-even.
Lesson#2
One of the first big decisions is the legal structure, or ownership, of the business. This choice affects everything from how you pay tax to how much personal risk you take on. We'll look at the three most common options for new businesses: sole trader, partnership, and private limited company.
Quiz#3
What is the most common form of business ownership in the UK, run by just one person?

sole trader

Lesson#4
A sole trader is the simplest business structure. One person owns and controls the entire business. They are their own boss and get to make all the decisions. A major advantage is that the sole trader gets to keep all the profits after tax. However, there's a significant downside related to business debts.
Quiz#5
What is a key financial advantage of being a sole trader?

keep all the profits

Lesson#6
Next is a partnership. This is where two or more people, up to a maximum of twenty, own and run a business together. It's common for professions like accountants or solicitors. Partners can pool their money and skills, which is a big advantage. They usually draw up a legal agreement called a Deed of Partnership to set out how the business will be run.
