Lesson#2
To call in sick over the phone, use the reflexive verb 'zich ziekmelden'. You can say 'Ik bel om me ziek te melden voor vandaag', which means 'I am calling to report sick today'. If you cannot make it in, follow up with 'Ik kan vandaag helaas niet komen werken', meaning 'Unfortunately, I cannot come to work today'.

When describing how you feel to your supervisor, you can say 'Ik voel me erg beroerd', which means 'I feel very unwell'. To name your symptoms, use 'Ik heb last van', meaning 'I am suffering from'. For example, 'Ik heb last van hoge koorts' means 'I am suffering from a high fever', and 'Ik heb last van hevige buikpijn en griep' means 'I am suffering from severe stomach ache and flu'.
