In this deck, you will learn how to discuss schools, studies, and adult courses in the Netherlands. You will also learn key phrases needed for parent-teacher conversations, including discussing grades, behaviour, and homework.
Lesson#2
In the Netherlands, primary school is called 'de basisschool'. It consists of eight school years, known from age four onwards as 'groep 1' to 'groep 8'. To say that a child is in a particular year, use 'in'. For example, 'Mijn dochter zit in groep 7 van de basisschool' means 'My daughter is in group 7 of primary school'.

For example, 'Mijn zoon gaat volgend schooljaar naar het vmbo' means 'My son is going to the vmbo next school year'.
