A dramatic, close-up photograph of a single hand, weathered by life, reaching towards a small, scattered pile of old, tarnished coins on a dark, rough surface. A single ray of light dramatically illuminates the coins and part of the hand, casting deep, moral shadows across the rest of the scene, suggesting temptation and difficult choices.

Lesson#1
Welcome to this deck on Religion, crime and the causes of crime. This is the first part of Theme E in your AQA GCSE Religious Studies course. We'll explore Christian ideas about good and evil, why people commit crimes, and what religion teaches about specific offences like theft and murder. Mastering these ideas will help you build strong, evidence-based answers in your exam.
Lesson#2
Let's start with Christian views on good and evil. Christianity teaches that humans were created good, in the image of God. However, the story of Adam and Eve in the book of Genesis explains how evil entered the world through an act of disobedience. This idea is known as Original Sin.
Quiz#3
What is the Christian concept, based on the story of Adam and Eve, that explains how evil entered the world?

Original Sin

Lesson#4
For Christians, it's not just evil actions that matter, but also evil intentions. Jesus made this very clear in the Sermon on the Mount, found in Matthew's gospel. He taught that being angry with someone is, in your heart, the same as committing murder. This shows that for Christians, thoughts and intentions are also judged by God.
Quiz#5
In the Sermon on the Mount, what feeling does Jesus teach is morally equivalent to murder?

anger

Quiz#6
