Lesson#1
In Russian, every noun belongs to one of three grammatical genders: masculine, feminine, or neuter. You can tell the gender of almost any noun simply by listening to the sound at the very end of the word. Once you know these ending sounds, identifying and using Russian nouns feels completely intuitive. You already know the subject pronouns. Use он to refer back to a masculine singular noun, она for a feminine noun, and оно for a neuter noun. In these exercises, choose the pronoun that matches the noun's gender.
Lesson#2
In spoken Russian, nouns that end in a hard consonant sound are masculine. For example, 'стол' means 'table', and 'студент' means 'student'. Because both end in a firm consonant sound, both are masculine.
Quiz#3
The noun 'стол' means 'table'. Give the Russian singular subject pronoun that agrees with this noun's gender.

он

Quiz#4
How do you say 'student', referring to a male student, in Russian?

студент

Lesson#5
Other common masculine nouns follow this same hard consonant pattern. 'Брат' means 'brother', and 'журнал' means 'magazine'. Each ends in a firm consonant sound, marking them as masculine.
Quiz#6
The noun 'брат' means 'brother'. Give the Russian singular subject pronoun that agrees with this noun's gender.

он
