The story begins in Jerusalem, where Jesus and his disciples are preparing to celebrate a major Jewish festival. This festival commemorates the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. The meal they share is known as the Last Supper, and it's a pivotal moment where Jesus reinterprets the traditional meal in light of his own impending death.

During the Passover meal, Jesus makes two shocking announcements. First, he reveals that one of the twelve disciples present will betray him. Then, he takes bread, blesses it, breaks it, and gives it to them, saying 'Take it; this is my body.' He does the same with a cup of wine, calling it 'the blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.' This action forms the basis of the Christian service of Holy Communion or the Eucharist.
