A high-contrast, extreme close-up of a person's hands, slightly weathered, tightly clutching a crumpled paper grocery list with Cyrillic writing, framed against the vibrant, blurred colors of fresh fruits and vegetables at a bustling Russian outdoor market, lit by strong, directional sunlight, composed for a 3:2 landscape frame.

Lesson#1
In Russian, necessity, permission, and rules are often expressed impersonally rather than with personal verbs. Instead of saying 'I must' or 'May I', you use state words like 'надо', 'нужно', 'можно', and 'нельзя', while putting the person who experiences the need in the dative case. This deck will teach you how to express what you need to do, what is allowed, and what is forbidden.
Lesson#2
To say that someone needs to do something, use 'надо' or 'нужно' followed by an infinitive verb. The person who has the need is placed in the dative case. For example, 'Мне надо работать' means 'I need to work', and 'Тебе нужно отдохнуть' means 'You need to rest'.
Quiz#3
Translate into Russian: 'I need to work.'

Мне надо работать

Quiz#4
Speaking to a friend, translate into Russian: 'You need to rest.'

Тебе нужно отдохнуть

Lesson#5
You can use 'надо' and 'нужно' with any dative noun, such as a name, and with common daily actions. For example, 'Антону надо идти' means 'Anton needs to go', and 'Нам нужно купить продукты' means 'We need to buy groceries'.
Quiz#6
Translate into Russian: 'Anton needs to go.'

Антону надо идти
