GCSE RS: The nature of the divine and revelation

It defines key divine attributes (e.g., omnipotence) and evaluates the value and problems of revelation, including alternative non-religious explanations.

Lesson#1
In this deck, we'll explore how religious believers claim to know God. We'll look at the different ways they believe God is revealed, what these revelations tell them about God's nature, and the challenges to these ideas from a non-religious perspective. This is a core topic for understanding religious belief.
Quiz#2
What is the religious term for the way God makes himself known to human beings?

revelation

Lesson#3
Christians believe there are two main types of revelation. The first is general revelation, which is available to everyone, everywhere, at any time. Think of it like a public broadcast. The second is special revelation, which is a direct and personal experience of God, sent to a specific person or group. Think of this as a personal message or a direct phone call.
Quiz#4
What type of revelation is available to everyone and is not directed at a specific individual?

general revelation

Quiz#5
What type of revelation is a direct, personal experience of God?

special revelation

Lesson#6
Let's start with general revelation. One way Christians believe God is revealed to everyone is through nature. They argue that the beauty, order, and complexity of the natural world, from a sunset to the intricate design of a human eye, points towards a divine creator. This connects to the Design Argument for God's existence.
