Lesson#1
In this deck, you will learn how to connect two complete sentences in Dutch using four coordinating conjunctions: en, maar, of, and want. When you join sentences with these words, the normal word order does not change. Both clauses keep the subject in the first position and the finite verb in the second position.
Lesson#2
The conjunction 'en' means 'and'. You use it to connect two related statements. Each clause keeps standard word order with the subject followed by the verb. For example, 'Zij spreekt Engels en hij leert Nederlands' means 'She speaks English and he learns Dutch'.
Quiz#3
Translate into Dutch: 'She speaks English and he learns Dutch.'

Zij spreekt Engels en hij leert Nederlands

Quiz#4
Translate into Dutch: 'I live in Utrecht and I work in Amsterdam.'

Ik woon in Utrecht en ik werk in Amsterdam

Quiz#5
Translate into Dutch: 'We eat bread and we drink tea.'

Wij eten brood en we drinken thee

Lesson#6
The conjunction 'maar' means 'but'. You use it to contrast two complete thoughts. Just like with 'en', the clause following 'maar' keeps normal word order, placing the subject first and the verb second. For example, 'Het huis is mooi, maar het is klein' means 'The house is beautiful, but it is small'.
