To say where you were born, men say 'я родился в', while women say 'я родилась в'. To say where you grew up, a man says 'я вырос в', and a woman says 'я выросла в'. For example, 'Я родился в Манчестере, но вырос в Лондоне' means 'I was born in Manchester, but grew up in London'.

'Детство' means childhood, and 'юность' means youth. To say your childhood was spent in a place, use the phrase 'моё детство прошло в'. To say you spent your childhood or youth somewhere, use the verb 'провести', as in 'провести юность в столице'.
