Stating and Justifying Opinions

Learn spoken frames for exchanging opinions, agreeing, disagreeing, and justifying viewpoints in Dutch.

A candid photograph of two people engaged in a lively conversation at an outdoor cafe in Paris, one person with a slightly thoughtful, engaged expression, leaning in as if trying to catch a word, the other person speaking animatedly. The background shows blurred Parisian street life and historic architecture under warm, soft sunlight, composed for a 3:2 landscape frame.

Lesson#1
In this deck, you will learn how to ask for and express personal opinions in Dutch, agree and disagree naturally, and justify your viewpoint. Whether chatting with friends or speaking politely in formal settings, these everyday conversational frames will help your interactions flow.
Lesson#2
To ask what someone thinks of something, use the question frame 'Wat vind jij van...?' when speaking informally. In formal situations, use 'Wat vindt u van...?'. For example, 'Wat vind jij van het nieuwe plan?' means 'What do you think of the new plan?'.
Quiz#3
Speaking to a friend, how do you say 'What do you think of the new plan?' in Dutch?

Wat vind jij van het nieuwe plan?

Quiz#4
Speaking formally, how do you say 'What do you think of the new plan?' in Dutch?

Wat vindt u van het nieuwe plan?

Quiz#5
Speaking to a friend, how do you say 'What do you think of this idea?' in Dutch?

Lesson#6
To open an opinion, you can say 'Volgens mij...' or 'Naar mijn mening...'. Both mean 'in my opinion'. Because these phrases start the sentence, the conjugated verb must come immediately next. For example, 'Volgens mij is het een goed idee' means 'In my opinion, it is a good idea'.
