Reaching Out to People and Moving Along Streets

Master the Russian Dative plural noun endings to address groups of people and describe movement along streets and through cities.

A dramatic low-angle, close-up photograph capturing the textured detail of a person's feet in motion on a winding, wet cobblestone path, reflecting the warm glow of distant streetlights. In the soft-focus background, a small group of people are seen interacting under an archway or at a gathering point, suggesting a journey towards connection, composed for a 3:2 landscape frame.

Lesson#1
In this deck, you'll learn how to reach out to groups of people and describe moving through places in Russian. We'll use the Dative plural to show who receives an action, communication, or help, and to describe moving along streets or through towns.
Lesson#2
When addressing or giving something to a plural group of people with a hard consonant stem, the noun takes the ending А М in the Dative case. For example, 'студенты', meaning students, becomes 'студентам'. 'Преподаватель объясняет правило студентам' means 'The teacher explains the rule to the students'.
Quiz#3
Translate into Russian: 'The teacher explains the rule to the students.'

Преподаватель объясняет правило студентам

Lesson#4
Nouns with stems ending in a consonant also take the ending А М when you offer help, advice, or services to them. 'Врачи', meaning doctors, becomes 'врачам', and 'пациенты', meaning patients, becomes 'пациентам'. For example, 'Врач даёт советы пациентам' means 'The doctor gives advice to patients'.
Quiz#5
Translate into Russian: 'The doctor gives advice to patients.'

Врач даёт советы пациентам

Quiz#6
