A long, empty train station platform at dusk, with a train's tail lights just visible in the far distance as it recedes around a bend. The platform lights cast long shadows, creating a sense of a recently completed departure.

Lesson#1
In this deck, you'll learn how to talk about an action that had already happened before another past event. In Swedish, you create this past perfect tense simply by combining 'hade' with the supinum form of the verb. It lets you sequence your stories and past events clearly.
Lesson#2
To say you had done something, use 'hade', meaning had, followed by the supinum form of your verb. For instance, 'Jag hade ätit' means 'I had eaten', and 'Vi hade sett filmen' means 'We had seen the film'. The auxiliary 'hade' stays the same for every person.
Quiz#3
Translate into Swedish: 'I had eaten.'

Jag hade ätit

Quiz#4
Translate into Swedish: 'They had left.'

De hade gått

Quiz#5
Translate into Swedish: 'We had seen the film.'

Vi hade sett filmen

Lesson#6
In everyday conversation, you often add 'redan', which means already, between 'hade' and your main verb. For example, 'Han hade redan gått' means 'He had already left'. You can also say 'Vi hade redan köpt maten' for 'We had already bought the food'.
