Lesson#1
Train journeys in the Netherlands do not always go as planned. In this deck, you will learn to understand spoken disruption announcements at railway stations and speak with staff about delays, cancellations, replacement buses, and ticket refunds.
Lesson#2
When a train is cancelled, station announcements often state that it is not running today, using 'rijdt vandaag niet'. The reason is often given with 'wegens een storing', meaning 'due to a technical fault' or 'breakdown'. For example, 'De intercity rijdt vandaag niet wegens een storing' means 'The intercity is not running today due to a fault'.
Quiz#3
Translate into Dutch: 'The intercity is not running today due to a fault.'

De intercity rijdt vandaag niet wegens een storing

Lesson#4
Station announcements usually address passengers at the start. The standard formal opening is 'beste reizigers', which means 'dear travellers'. You will also hear 'dames en heren', which means 'ladies and gentlemen'.
Quiz#5
How do you say 'dear travellers' in Dutch?

beste reizigers

Quiz#6
How do you say 'ladies and gentlemen' in Dutch?
