Lesson#1
To say who something belongs to in Dutch, you place a possessive word in front of the noun. In everyday speech, Dutch speakers often choose between a stressed form for emphasis and a lighter, unstressed form. In this deck, you will learn these possessive words across all persons.
Lesson#2
For 'my', the stressed form is 'mijn'. When you speak quickly without special emphasis, it naturally shortens to 'm'n'. For example, 'Dit is mijn fiets' means 'This is my bicycle', while 'Dat is m'n kamer' means 'That is my room'.
Quiz#3
Emphasising the word 'my', translate into Dutch: 'This is my bicycle.'

Dit is mijn fiets

Quiz#4
Using the unstressed form, translate into Dutch: 'This is my bicycle.'

Dit is m'n fiets

Quiz#5
Using the unstressed form, translate into Dutch: 'That is my room.'

Dat is m'n kamer

Lesson#6
To say 'your' to a friend or family member, use 'jouw' for contrast or emphasis. In everyday casual speech, the unstressed word 'je' is far more common. For example, 'Is dat jouw tas?' emphasises ownership of the bag, while 'Is dit je boek?' casually asks 'Is this your book?'.
