Welcome to A1 German Part 4. In this part, you’ll build the language you need for everyday situations: giving simple instructions, talking about the past, finding your way around town, using transport, discussing holidays and weather, and handling basic health or emergency situations.

To tell someone to do something in German, you use a special verb form called the imperative, or command form. The form you use depends on who you're talking to: one friend, a group of friends, or someone you don't know well. We'll start with the polite form.

The polite command form is used with 'Sie' for people you'd address formally, like in a shop or office. It's simple to form: you just use the verb's full form, the infinitive, followed by 'Sie'. For example, to politely tell someone to come, you say 'Kommen Sie'.
