A dynamic, mid-distance photograph of a lone cyclist on a winding brick fietspad (cycling path) through a vibrant Dutch landscape. The path is flanked by fields of colorful tulips, stretching into the distance towards a charming traditional Dutch village with a prominent church spire, visually representing a clear journey from beginning to end. The scene is bathed in warm golden hour light.

Lesson#1
In Dutch, when you speak in the present perfect tense, the sentence forms a bracket. The helping verb, like hebben or zijn, sits near the start, while the past participle is sent right to the very end of the clause. In this deck, you will learn how this sentence bracket works and how to arrange other words neatly in the middle.
Lesson#2
In a standard statement, the subject comes first and the conjugated auxiliary verb takes the second position. Everything else, such as time, place, or objects, sits in the middle field, and the past participle waits at the very end. For example, 'Ik heb gisteren tot laat gewerkt' means 'I worked until late yesterday', and 'Hij heeft vorige week een nieuwe jas gekocht' means 'He bought a new coat last week'.
Quiz#3
Translate into Dutch: 'I worked until late yesterday.'

Ik heb gisteren tot laat gewerkt

Quiz#4
Translate into Dutch: 'He bought a new coat last week.'

Hij heeft vorige week een nieuwe jas gekocht

Lesson#5
The sentence bracket works in exactly the same way when the auxiliary verb is 'zijn'. The conjugated form of 'zijn' takes position two, and the past participle stays at the clause end. For example, 'Wij zijn vanmorgen vroeg naar Amsterdam vertrokken' means 'We departed for Amsterdam early this morning'.
Quiz#6
Translate into Dutch: 'We departed for Amsterdam early this morning.'

Wij zijn vanmorgen vroeg naar Amsterdam vertrokken
