Learn how to use zullen with wel in spoken Dutch to express likelihood, make assumptions, and offer conversational reassurance.

A person with a warm, reassuring smile offers a steaming cup of coffee to another person, who has just stepped into a cozy, inviting Dutch living room. Lesson#1
In Dutch, combining the verb 'zullen' with the little word 'wel' expresses probability or pragmatic presumption. Instead of talking about the definite future, you use it to say that something is likely to be true or to comfort someone that things will turn out fine. In this deck, you will learn how to express these assumptions and offer natural spoken reassurance.
Lesson#2
To say that something is probably right based on the facts you have, use 'zal' in second position followed by 'wel'. For example, 'Dat zal wel kloppen' means 'That will probably be right'. If you want to say 'That will probably be the case', say 'Dat zal wel zo zijn'.
Quiz#3
Translate into Dutch: 'That will probably be right.'

Dat zal wel kloppen

Quiz#4
Translate into Dutch: 'That will probably be the case.'

Dat zal wel zo zijn

Lesson#5
You can also use 'zullen wel' to assume someone's current state or location. For example, 'Hij zal wel thuis zijn' means 'He will probably be at home'. If people have travelled for a long time, you can say 'Zij zullen wel moe zijn na die reis', meaning 'They will probably be tired after that journey'.
Quiz#6
Translate into Dutch: 'He will probably be at home.'

Hij zal wel thuis zijn
