Let's start with the verb 'stare', which can mean 'to be' or 'to stay'. For 'I stay', you say 'io sto'. For 'you stay' when speaking to a friend, it's 'tu stai'. For 'he or she stays', it's 'lui sta' or 'lei sta'.
