Um auf bestimmte Dinge zu zeigen oder sie auszuwählen, verwenden wir im Deutschen Wörter wie 'dieser' oder 'jener'. Im Italienischen gibt es dafür die Demonstrativa. 'Questo' wird für Dinge verwendet, die nah sind, und 'quello' für Dinge, die weiter entfernt sind.

'Questo' passt sich in Geschlecht und Zahl an das Substantiv an, auf das es sich bezieht. Für ein männliches Substantiv in der Einzahl, wie 'il libro', verwenden wir 'questo'. 'Dieses Buch' ist also 'questo libro'.
