In this deck, you will learn how nouns work in Swedish and how to talk about a single item. Swedish nouns divide into two grammatical genders, known as common gender and neuter gender. When you say a or an in English, Swedish uses either en or ett. About three quarters of all Swedish nouns use en, while the rest use ett.

Common gender nouns use the indefinite article en. Two very common transport words are en bil, which means a car, and en buss, which means a bus.
