Dealing with Swedish public authorities, parcel collection, and banking is a major part of living in Sweden. While many processes begin online, you still need confident spoken Swedish when visiting a service counter, calling an agency, or settling bills.

When you move home in Sweden, you must notify Skatteverket, the Swedish Tax Agency. In Sweden, civil registration is called folkbokföring. To register your relocation, use the phrase registrera sin flytt, as in 'Hej, jag vill registrera min nya adress hos Skatteverket'.

To access public services, you need a personal identification number. If you are registered in the population register, you receive 'ett personnummer'. If you are staying temporarily and do not qualify for a personnummer, you receive a coordination number called 'ett samordningsnummer'.
