GCSE Business: 1.5 Understanding external influences on business

This deck covers the external factors that can impact a business. You will learn about stakeholders and their objectives, the effects of technology and legislation, and how economic changes like interest rates and inflation create opportunities and threats for small businesses.
A warm, inviting glow emanates from a small, traditional independent shop (e.g., a bakery or florist) nestled on a bustling city street. The street itself is a vibrant, slightly blurred tableau of diverse pedestrians, modern city lights, and the dynamic flow of traffic, all hinting at the myriad external forces – from various stakeholders to technological advancements and economic shifts – that swirl around the business, creating both opportunities and challenges. The image is a wide-angle photograph, capturing the contrast between the grounded business and its ever-changing urban environment.

Lesson#1
In this deck, we'll explore the world outside a business's front door. These are the external influences that a business can't control, but must respond to. We'll look at the different people and groups who have an interest in a business, known as stakeholders. We will also cover how changes in technology, the law, and the economy can create both exciting opportunities and serious threats for a small business.
Lesson#2
Let's start with stakeholders. A stakeholder is any person, group, or organisation that has an interest in, or is affected by, the activities of a business. They're not just shareholders; the term is much broader and includes everyone from the employees working inside the business to the local community living next to the factory.

And the government wants the business to pay taxes and follow the law.
Quiz#5
