Lesson#1
Welcome to the world of No Trump contracts. Unlike suit contracts, in No Trumps there is no trump suit at all. This means the highest card played in the suit that was led always wins the trick. This changes both bidding and play strategy significantly.
Lesson#2
The most common way to get to a No Trump contract is by opening the bidding with One No Trump, or 1NT. This bid shows a specific range of high card points and, crucially, a balanced hand. There are two main systems for this opening bid: Strong NT and Weak NT.
Lesson#3
The Strong No Trump system, common in Standard American bridge, shows a hand with 15 to 17 high card points and a balanced shape. A balanced hand means you have no voids, no singletons, and at most one doubleton.
Quiz#4
In the Strong No Trump system, what is the high card point range for a 1NT opening bid?

15 to 17

Quiz#5
For a hand to be considered balanced for a 1NT opening, what is the maximum number of doubletons it can contain?

One

Lesson#6
The other main system is the Weak No Trump, which is standard in the Acol system popularised by players like Andrew Robson. It also requires a balanced hand, but the point range is lower, showing 12 to 14 high card points.
