The strongest dignity is called Rulership, also known as Domicile. This is when a planet is in the sign it naturally governs. For example, Mars, the planet of action, is at home and most powerful in the fiery sign of Aries.

The next strongest dignity is Exaltation. A planet in its sign of exaltation is highly honored and can express its highest potential. For example, the Sun, representing vitality, is exalted in Aries, where its energy is celebrated.
