You already know how to say 'my book' – 'mon livre'. But what if you just want to say 'mine'? That's where possessive pronouns come in. They replace a noun to show ownership and avoid repetition, just like in English.

To say 'mine' for a masculine singular object, you use 'le mien'. For example, if someone asks about your phone, 'C'est ton téléphone ?', you can reply 'Oui, c'est le mien'.

For a feminine singular object, 'mine' becomes 'la mienne'. If the question is about your car, 'C'est ta voiture ?', you'd say 'Oui, c'est la mienne'.
