Let's start with regular 'ar' verbs. To form the imperfect, you remove the 'ar' ending and add a new one. For the verb 'hablar', meaning 'to speak', the endings are: 'aba' for 'yo', 'abas' for 'tú', 'aba' for 'él', 'ábamos' for 'nosotros', 'abais' for 'vosotros', and 'aban' for 'ellos'.
