Referring to Your Own Things

Master the Russian reflexive possessive pronoun свой across all cases and learn when to contrast it with third-person possessives.

A close-up, low-angle shot of a person's hand resting possessively on a distinctly patterned, vintage leather suitcase on a grand, ornate train station platform in Russia. The suitcase stands out amongst a few blurred, generic suitcases in the background. Warm, directional light from an unseen window catches the texture of the leather, creating deep shadows, in a 3:2 landscape aspect ratio.

In Russian, when you talk about something belonging to the subject of the sentence, you use the reflexive possessive pronoun 'свой'. It corresponds to 'my', 'your', 'his', 'her', or 'their' whenever the subject owns the object.
Lesson#2
When the subject of a clause owns a masculine inanimate object, the nominative and accusative form is 'свой'. For example, 'Он забыл свой билет' means 'He forgot his ticket'.
Quiz#3
Translate into Russian: 'He forgot his ticket.'

Он забыл свой билет

Lesson#4
For neuter inanimate nouns, the form is 'своё'. For example, 'Она нашла своё место' means 'She found her seat'.
Quiz#5
Translate into Russian: 'She found her seat.'

Она нашла своё место

Lesson#6
