Now let us look at family members. The formal and respectful word for father is Bapak. The word for mother is Ibu. In Indonesian, siblings are usually distinguished by age rather than gender. An older sibling is called Kakak. A younger sibling is called Adik. So, if you want to say This is my mother, you would say Ini Ibu saya.
