In this deck, we'll explore how we use the Earth's resources. We'll look at the difference between resources that will run out and those that won't, and what it means to use them sustainably. We'll also cover the essential processes of making water safe to drink and treating wastewater, and how we assess the environmental impact of products using Life Cycle Assessments. Finally, we'll cover the key steps of Required Practical 6, where water samples are analysed and purified.

The Earth provides us with a huge range of natural resources. We can split these into two main types: finite and renewable. A finite resource, like crude oil or metal ores, is one that is being used up faster than it can be replaced. Once it's gone, it's gone for good. A renewable resource, on the other hand, can be replaced at the same rate it's used. Examples include timber from trees, or fresh water.
