We'll focus on the four most important irregular verbs you'll use every day: être, meaning to be; avoir, meaning to have; aller, meaning to go; and faire, meaning to do or make. Mastering these is a huge step towards fluency.

Let's start with the verb 'être', which means 'to be'. It's one of the most fundamental verbs in French. Here is the full conjugation in the present tense. For 'I am', you say 'je suis'. For 'you are' informally, it's 'tu es'. For 'he is', 'she is', or 'one is', it's 'il est', 'elle est', or 'on est'. For 'we are', it's 'nous sommes'. For 'you are' formally or for a group, it's 'vous êtes'. And for 'they are', it's 'ils sont' for a masculine or mixed group, and 'elles sont' for a feminine group.
