Lesson#1
In Dutch, diminutives turn everyday nouns into smaller, cosier, or more casual versions of themselves. Best of all, every single diminutive in the singular becomes a 'het' word, no matter what its original gender was. In this deck, you will learn how to form these spoken words and use them naturally in daily conversation.
Lesson#2
To form a basic diminutive, Dutch often adds the ending J E to the base noun. Crucially, every diminutive in the singular takes the definite article 'het' and the indefinite article 'een', even if the base noun took 'de'. For example, 'de kop', meaning the cup, becomes 'het kopje', meaning the little cup.
Quiz#3

Quiz#4

Diminutives are very common with food and drink to describe a single portion or snack. 'Het brood', meaning bread, becomes 'het broodje', meaning the bread roll or sandwich. Similarly, 'het bier', meaning beer, becomes 'het biertje' when referring to a single glass or bottle.
Quiz#6
