First, let's look at gender agreement. In Spanish, every noun is either masculine or feminine, and the adjective must match. The most common rule is for adjectives ending in the letter 'o'. For a masculine noun, the adjective ends in 'o'. For a feminine noun, you change the 'o' to an 'a'. For example, 'the tall boy' is 'el chico alto', but 'the tall girl' is 'la chica alta'.

What about adjectives that don't end in 'o'? Many of these don't change for gender. Adjectives ending in the letter 'e', or in a consonant, usually have the same form for both masculine and feminine nouns. For example, 'inteligente' means 'intelligent'. So, 'the intelligent boy' is 'el chico inteligente', and 'the intelligent girl' is also 'la chica inteligente'. The adjective stays the same.
