The outer parts of a flower are the sepals and petals. Sepals are typically green, leaf-like structures that protect the flower when it is a bud. The petals are often large and brightly coloured to attract insects for pollination.

The male reproductive part of a flower is called the stamen. The stamen is made of two parts: the anther, which produces the male gametes inside pollen grains, and the filament, which is a stalk that holds the anther up.
