Lesson#1
In Italian, every noun has a grammatical gender, either masculine or feminine. This affects the articles and adjectives used with it. A very common pattern is that masculine nouns end in the letter O, and feminine nouns end in the letter A.
Lesson#2
Let's look at a classic example. 'The boy' in Italian is 'il ragazzo'. 'Ragazzo' is a masculine noun. 'The girl' is 'la ragazza'. 'Ragazza' is a feminine noun. Notice the articles: 'il' is used for masculine nouns, and 'la' for feminine nouns.
Quiz#3
Translate into Italian: 'the boy'.

il ragazzo

Quiz#4
Translate into Italian: 'the girl'.

la ragazza

Lesson#5
Italian has several ways to say 'the' for singular nouns. The four main forms are 'il', 'lo', 'la', and 'l’'. The one you use depends on the gender of the noun and the letter it starts with.
Lesson#6
'Il' is the most common article for singular masculine nouns that start with a consonant. For example, 'the book' is 'il libro'. 'La' is used for singular feminine nouns that start with a consonant, like 'la ragazza'.
