You already know how to talk about the near future using 'aller' plus an infinitive, like 'je vais manger', meaning 'I am going to eat'. The simple future is used for plans that are further away, or more certain. It's the equivalent of saying 'I will eat', 'je mangerai'.

Let's start with regular verbs. The great news is that for most verbs, you form the simple future by taking the infinitive, which is the 'to' form of the verb, and adding a specific ending. For example, to say 'I will speak', you take the infinitive 'parler' and add the ending for 'je', which is 'ai'. This gives you 'je parlerai'.

The endings for the simple future are the same for all verbs, regular or irregular. They are: 'ai' for je, 'as' for tu, 'a' for il, elle, and on, 'ons' for nous, 'ez' for vous, and 'ont' for ils and elles. Let's practice with some regular verbs.

For regular verbs ending in R E, like 'vendre', meaning 'to sell', you do something slightly different. You drop the final 'e' from the infinitive before adding the future ending. So, 'vendre' becomes 'vendr', and then you add the ending. For example, 'he will sell' is 'il vendra'.
