Soft, warm sunlight streams from the side, highlighting the textures of the hands and the vintage photo, evoking a strong sense of nostalgia and cherished memories.

Lesson#1
Sometimes when you're telling a story about the past, you need to mention something that happened even earlier. In English, we use 'had' plus a verb, like 'When I arrived, he had already left'. In French, this 'past-before-the-past' tense is called the plus-que-parfait.
Lesson#2
To form the plus-que-parfait, you combine two parts: the imparfait form of the auxiliary verb, which is either 'avoir' or 'être', and the past participle of the main verb. The choice of 'avoir' or 'être' is the same as for the passé composé.
Lesson#3
Let's look at an example with 'avoir'. To say 'I had already eaten', you use the imparfait of 'avoir', which is 'j'avais', followed by the past participle of 'manger', which is 'mangé'. This gives you: 'J’avais déjà mangé'.
