A person on a classic Vespa scooter, stopped at a sunny crossroads in a charming Italian hill town, looking at a physical map and pointing animatedly down one of the narrow, winding streets. Picturesque stone buildings line the background, with the street leading into the distance, conveying a sense of exploration and direction in a vibrant photograph.

Lesson#1
In Italian, to talk about realistic plans and choices, you often use 'if-then' sentences. These are called real conditions, because they describe situations that are possible or likely. We'll look at two main patterns for this.
Lesson#2
The first pattern is for a condition that has a direct or habitual result in the present. The structure is 'se' with the present tense, followed by the main clause also in the present tense. For example, 'Se piove, prendo l'ombrello' means 'If it rains, I take the umbrella'.
Quiz#3
Translate into Italian: 'If I have a headache, I take an aspirin.'

Se ho mal di testa, prendo un'aspirina.

Quiz#4
Translate into Italian: 'If the children are hungry, they eat a snack.'

Se i bambini hanno fame, mangiano uno spuntino.

Quiz#5
Translate into Italian, speaking to a male friend: 'If you don't sleep well, you are tired.'

Se non dormi bene, sei stanco.

Lesson#6
The second, and more common, pattern is for a condition that will have a result in the future. Here, the structure is 'se' with the present tense, but the main clause uses the future simple tense. For example, 'Se piove, prenderò l'ombrello' means 'If it rains, I will take the umbrella'.
